Fantastic Dog Shows for you!

Oakley's thought it would be a nice idea to try to raise some money for our friends at the Dog Trust, and maybe also give some other pet charities some help too - after all it is nearly Christmas!!

So we thought we'd hold a Fun Dog Show to raise some money so that people could win some prizes too, but then we realised that although it would be great fun for all our friends near the DayCare Centre, there might be people who couldn't come.  Maybe they would be busy that day, or maybe they live too far away.

Was there a solution?  Yes, we think so!  Oakley's is having an additional 'Show', a virtual Show where you can enter photo of your dog.  Well, it doesn't even have to be your dog!  It can be a dog you know, or someone you know's dog, anyone's dog!  So long as it's your photo!  You can find details of how to enter here

We're hoping to get lots of entries. from all over the world if we can!  Let's see how many entries we can get!!

But for those of you who are local, or who can travel and want to come and have a fun day - here's the details of our 'real' Christmas Dog Show!

Training courses - a few places still left!

Our Craft Fair yesterday went very well, it was good to meet so many people with an interest in dogs, and Harry the Lurcher who came was just like the lurcher featured on our shopping bags!

More Training Stuff

Having a chat with the team today, and we thought that there are a lot of dog classes that only offer the traditional sit - stay - down type of training. We do, of course, offer this, however Oakley's wants to break the mould with training, we want to offer what you want!!

One of the things we talked about was scent training - how cool would it be if your dog could find your keys!! Another was what we called 'Dancing with Dogs' - I'm sure you've seen this on the Crufts TV broadcasts, and some of the other dog TV programmes. One for the light-footed amongst us, I think!

So, our question to you is.... what sort of training would you like for your dog? Email us on training@oakleydogs.co.uk and if we can put more than two handlers and dogs into a group we can try to fit it into the training schedule for you!

If anyone wants to try the scent training, I'll be there with Sid, who was born a gundog, but behaves more like a Mud Monster!

Dogs Love School!!

We are pleased to announce the dates of our first training courses.  We will be starting them on November 8th, and places are limited!  To book your place, email us on training@oakleydogs.co.uk and we will reserve a place in our classroom for you and your dog.  We are deliberately keeping classes small so that any issues can be handled on a one to one with our staff.

Bonfire Night!

With evenings starting to get darker, and mornings getting cooler, we are gradually getting to the dreaded Bonfire Night, when some dogs spend their days and night terrified of fireworks.  At Oakley's we don't like to see our doggie friends frightened, so we are planning to have some 'It's Really Not Bonfire Night' evenings for you to leave your dog with us, away from all the scary fireworks, bangs and flashes.  We will make the evening fun and entertaining for the dogs, and they won't be able to see any fireworks lighting up  the sky, and will be playing games and gentle music that will distract them from any noises that might happen far away from us.  All this too in a safe environment where they cannot escape outside.

Depending on demand, we will offer this service during the evenings around November 5th, from early evening until late.  For further details or to make a booking, please email us on enquiries@oakleydogs.co.uk

Here at Oakley's we are now taking applications to join our new training courses.  We are going to offer something that all the family can get involved with, and are going to hold courses where youngsters can learn not only how to look after their dogs, but also how to train them, and maybe do some tricks too!

We will have 2 sessions for different age groups - the first being aged 8 to 11 year olds, and the second aged 12 to 18.  We hope that all young people will be able to interact with more confidence with their pets, and we will develop these courses to reflect the types of training that our young people want to do with their pets.

Alongside this we will be offering our Puppy classes and also are hoping to offer the full range of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award.

If you wish to find out more about our courses, or put your name down for one, please email us on training@oakleydogs.co.uk

Yesterday was our Grand Opening Launch, and a great day was had by all!  We had a whole variety of dogs, from a tiny Westie, to a Labradoodle, and the dogs had a great time, even though it meant that they had to stay on the lead for their stay.  Of course, if they come for a proper day they will be introduced to the pack on a one-to-one, but we did have too many visitors to be able to do that yesterday.

You can see the pictures on Oakley's Facebook page - Launch Pictures

Grand Opening Launch Day!

Although we have been open for a few days now, we are having a big celebration to let people look round our premises, talk to us about what services we can provide, and have some fun too!  We will be having visits during the day from our dog grooming friends, Dog and Groom, our canine nutritional expert friend, Tristan from the Real Dog Company, Jazzie our favourite PAT dog, and lots of other doggie-minded people!

We hope to have something for everyone there, advice from our canine behaviourist Aimee and her colleague Amanda for any problems you may have with your own dog, a photographer to take your dog's photo, competitions for the kids and dogs to have a go at - with prizes! - and refreshments, including a glass of wine for the adults and juice for the kids!

For the dogs, there will be a competition for the Longest Sit, and also for the speedy ones, the Quickest Recall.  There will also be a Lucky Dip for dogs too!  The kids can have a go at our Junior Handler competition as well, and we will also be announcing our Dog Training Club which launches soon!

For a copy of our flyer see http://www.oakleydogs.co.uk/news/launch-day-11-sept

Bring the whole family for some proper Sunday dog-style fun!
